Srinagar, Feb 13 Intermittent snowfall proceeded at many places across Kashmir, even as the minimum temperature settled below the freezing point across the Valley and the Ladakh area.
Kashmir experienced the seasons’ first major snowfall yesterday with the plains receiving snowfall between 5 inches to 22 inches, an official of the Meteorological (MeT) office said here.
The higher compasses of the Valley and Jammu got overwhelming snowfall, he said.
The authority said Srinagar – the mid year capital of Jammu and Kashmir – recorded 23 cm of snowfall over the most recent 24 hours, the authority said.
The city enlisted a base temperature of less 0.6 degrees Celsius, he said.
The authority said Qazigund town in south Kashmir recorded 19 cm of snowfall, while Kokernag got 58 cm.
The night temperature at Qazigund and Kokernag settled at a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius and minus 4.9 degrees Celsius, respectively.

New Delhi, Feb 7 Delhi woke up to a cold morning in the national capital as the mercury settled at 8.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season’s average.
Humidity was recorded at 77 percent, a MeT Department official said.
The visibility was 1,500 meters at 5.30 am and 1,200 meters at 8.30 am.
The MeT office has estimate clear skies for whatever remains of the day.
“The most extreme temperature is expected to hover around 23 degrees Celsius,” the weatherman said.
Recently, the maximum and minimum temperatures settled at 22.7 and 11.6 degrees Celsius individually.
Chandigarh, Jan 20 Cold weather conditions won in many parts of Punjab and Haryana, with Admapur in Jalandhar being the coldest in the district with a low of 2.1 degrees Celsius.
Chandigah, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, overcame frosty climate at 6.9 degrees Celsius, one degree above ordinary, an authority of the Meteorological department said here.
Among different places in Haryana, Ambala, Hisar and Karnal experienced chilly climate at 8.6, 5.4 and 5.5 degrees Celsius separately.
Narnaul, Bhiwani and Rohtak recorded their base temperatures at 5, 5.8 and 7 degrees Celsius individually.
In Punjab, Amritsar settled with a low of 4.6 degrees Celsius, while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their base temperatures at 7.7 and 9.1 degrees Celsius individually, up to three degrees above typical.
Pathankot, Halwara, Bathinda and Gurdaspur experienced cool climate at 5.4, 4.9, 5.4 and 6.3 degrees Celsius individually.

Srinagar, Jan 16 There was no respite from intense icy conditions in the Kashmir division as Kargil town in the Ladakh area kept on being the coldest place in the state registering a low of short 19 degrees Celsius.
In the adjacent Leh town, the mercury settled at a low of short 13.8 degrees Celsius, down almost three degrees from less 10.9 degrees Celsius daily prior, an authority of the Meteorological Department said.
